After a discussion about what you are experiencing and relevant medical history, we will use a video otoscope to magnify and reveal what is happening within your ear canals.

If earwax is present and is causing the blockage, a thin tube attached to a micro-suction unit is used to precisely extract the contents from your ear canal. All efforts will be made to avoid any contact with your ear canal or ear drum to avoid any discomfort. You will hear a whooshing noise as the earwax is removed - this is normal and generally very well tolerated. If there is any discomfort felt, the procedure can be stopped immediately.

At times, there may be a need to use other specialised tools to aid in the procedure, depending on what the consistency of your earwax is like. This is also an option if you do not like the micro-suction.

It is important to consider that symptoms like hearing loss could be due to other problems in the middle or inner ear. Potentially you have an infection or perforation of the eardrum. Or perhaps a thorough hearing assessment is warranted. There may be a need to engage with an Audiologist or GP to advise of a care plan going forward. We will endeavor to provide you with as much support and access to the most suitable solution for you.

If no earwax is found during the initial examination, it may be due to several reasons. At this point we will advise you of the correct care pathway for you. You will not be charged for the earwax removal service; however, we will require a small service fee for our initial consult and time spent with you.

We allow for a 30min appointment. However, the length of time varies depending on the degree of your blockage and type of ear wax. Usually you can expect amazing results in half the time.

For most people, yes. Ear syringing and irrigation flush water into the canal, which isn’t suitable for everyone — particularly those with a history of ear infections, perforations, grommets or hearing aids. Microsuction removes wax under direct vision with no water, making it safer, cleaner and more comfortable. It’s the method most ENT specialists now recommend.

Earwax production is variable and there are many lifestyle and genetic factors that affect this.

If you are prone to build-up, it could be advisable to return for a consult and clean every 4-6 months.

Perhaps you have ongoing Audiological care plans and/or wear hearing devices and require earwax removal more frequently.

We will discuss this with you after your procedure.

Children need to be able to understand commands, sit upright and keep their head relatively still for the duration of the procedure under parental supervision. For this reason, the procedure is governed on individual basis. Generally, children find Micro-suction more comfortable than ear syringing or irrigation. It can be noisy, however, we can utilise other manual techniques to make the procedure more acceptable for your child if necessary.

Yes. We offer home visits across Claremont, Nedlands, Cottesloe, Subiaco and surrounding suburbs, seven days a week— ideal for older clients, anyone with limited mobility, or those who’d simply prefer not to leave home. We also visit retirement villages and aged care facilities.

Ear cleaning is not covered by Medicare. As a paremedic-led practice, our services aren’t currently eligible for Medicare rebates. We’re a private-pay service with transparent, upfront pricing and no hidden fees.

Most health insurance companies only cover Audiology consultations and Hearing Aid devices. They do not contribute towards any other Audiological services, therefor Earwax Micro-suction is not covered. The reason is as a non-for-profit fund most health insurance companies are limited to what they can cover by their fund rules.
